True Beauty, in God’s eyes

We spend so much time focusing on ourselves, trying to impress others, and making sure we look good, don’t we? We pick out the right outfits, style our hair just right, and make sure we look the part.

I find myself doing it too—I have a bad habit of stressing over my body weight and obsessing over my hair (the little bit that I’ve got). But here’s the truth: many of us spend so much energy on how we appear on the surface and so little attention on what God truly cares about.

What Really Matters to God

God doesn’t care about man’s outward appearance. He’s not impressed by your outfit or your flawless skin. He focuses on your inner person.

True beauty, in God’s eyes, lies within. It’s not about how we look on the outside; it’s about what’s going on inside. True beauty begins with what fills our minds, what we’re meditating on, and how we act when no one is watching. It’s about how we treat others—especially when they can’t do anything for us. That’s the kind of beauty God treasures.

My Skincare Wake-Up Call

Just the other day, I bought a new facial skincare set, hoping it would get rid of wrinkles and leave my skin looking clear and flawless. I was so excited to try it out! I took a before picture, zoomed in, and studied all my blemishes, thinking, “Yep, I’m going to get rid of that, and that, and this.” I was ready to see some big changes on the outside.

But then I had to ask myself—how often do I take a close look at my heart? When was the last time I was this excited and worked this hard to clean up the flaws that people can’t see?

Are We Focused on the Wrong Thing?

When the Pharisees criticized the disciples for not washing their hands before eating, Jesus told them not to be so concerned about outward cleanliness.

He said, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me… What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them” (Matthew 15:11).

He was reminding us that it’s our hearts that matter most.

Change Starts with Us

If we spent as much time working on our inner selves as we do on our outer appearances, what a difference this world would be. Imagine if we devoted ourselves to purifying our thoughts, working on our attitudes, and showing kindness to others. What if the way we treated others mattered more than the image staring back at us?

It’s time we stop obsessing over things that hold very little eternal value. Pay attention to what matters most to God. Because true beauty—real beauty—comes from a pure heart.
